چکیده

We propose an experimental way to determine the pairing states for the unconventional superconductor CuxBi2Se3. Using the spectral polynomial expansion method, we numerically calculate the local density of states (LDOS) in the multi-orbital tight-binding model and analytically obtain the zero-energy solution around a vortex. Both calculations reveal that a quantized vortex is spin-polarized for the gap function categorized by “pseudo scalar” which is the isotropic odd-parity order parameter. On the other hand, no clear spin-polarization around a vortex can observed for the gap function categorized by “polar vector” which breaks the rotational isotropy in the normal states.

Majorana fermions and exotic surface Andreev bound states in topological superconductors: application to Cu(x)Bi2Se3.

The recently discovered superconductor Cu(x)Bi2Se3 is a candidate for three-dimensional time-reversal-invariant topological superconductors, which are predicted to have robust surface Andreev bound states hosting massless Majorana fermions. In this work, we analytically and numerically find the linearly dispersing Majorana fermions at k=0, which smoothly evolve into a new branch of gapless surf...

Experimental signatures of time-reversal-violating superconductors

We discuss some experimental signatures associated with the topological structures of unconventional superconductor order parameters of form dx2−y2 + ix, where x=s, px± py, or dxy. Specifically, we study the topological surface states on the s110d and equivalent surfaces of such superconductors which are observable in Andreev tunneling experiments, as well as evaluate the magnetic flux trapped ...

Zero-energy Andreev surface bound states in the lattice model

The conditions for zero-energy Andreev surface bound states to exist are found for the lattice model of d-wave superconductor with arbitrary surface orientation. Both nearest neighbors and next nearest neighbors models are considered. It is shown that the results are very sensitive to the surface orientation. In particular, for half-filled (hl0)-surface zero-energy Andreev surface states only a...

4p-periodic Josephson supercurrent in HgTe-based topological Josephson junctions

The Josephson effect describes the generic appearance of a supercurrent in a weak link between two superconductors. Its exact physical nature deeply influences the properties of the supercurrent. In recent years, considerable efforts have focused on the coupling of superconductors to the surface states of a three-dimensional topological insulator. In such a material, an unconventional induced p...

Superconducting proximity effect and majorana fermions at the surface of a topological insulator.

We study the proximity effect between an s-wave superconductor and the surface states of a strong topological insulator. The resulting two-dimensional state resembles a spinless px+ipy superconductor, but does not break time reversal symmetry. This state supports Majorana bound states at vortices. We show that linear junctions between superconductors mediated by the topological insulator form a...
